Uit de briefwisseling van JDB met zijn drukker Van Campenhout (notities Frank) blijkt de voordurende aandacht van JDB voor het belang van papier. Eén van de namen die gebruikt wordt is Van Gelder.

Van Gelder Papier was een fabrikant van papier waarvan de geschiedenis teruggaat tot 1685 en die heeft bestaan tot 1982.

This beautiful work of the Belgian artist Jules Bruyker was signed in
pencil on the bottom right, left is the name of the work also in pencil.
This etching is made on
laid paper with in the middle part of the
watermark of
"Van Gelder and Zonen".

Laid paper is a type of paper having a ribbed texture imparted by
the manufacturing process. In the pre-mechanical period of European
papermaking (from the 12th century into the 19th century), laid paper
was the predominant kind of paper produced. Its use, however, diminished
in the 19th century, when it was largely supplanted by wove paper. Laid
paper is still commonly used by artists as a support for charcoal
drawings.

Colophon: Cet ouvrage, le quatrième de la série éditée par le Palais des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles a été publié à l’occasion de l’exposition Gustave van de Woestijne (2 au 24 mars 1929). Il a été composé en caractère ‘Garamond’ d’après le maquette du Maître-Imprimeur A.M Stols.
Le tirage est limité à 65 exemplaires de luxe, (numerates de 1 à 65 don’t le texte a été imprimé sur simili Japon van Gelder) contenant chacun une lithographie originale signee par Van de Woestijne. Tous ces exemplaires portent la signature du painter. 450 exemplaires sur papier ‘Astra’ (numerates de 66 à 515).
